Irish Beauty Show 2014

Loved seeing tickets such as these arrive in the post! What more could a girl want than a show dedicated to all things Beauty! For ONCE I actually went to something on my own..which was probably a good thing for this type of show, I could then spend all the time in the world creeping and drooling on all the stands at the Irish Beauty Show packed with makeup and beauty offerings!

I had 2 things on my agenda, 1) was to try a new brand of product, and 2) was to pick up some brushes from another brand too. My makeup artist kit is full of MAC products and brushes with a couple of key products from other brands such as Urban Decay Naked palettes. Laura Mercier Primer and Bobbi Brown Toner! I’ve trusted these throughout my years of being a makeup artist since 2008 and I’ll never replace them with another but I really need to start branching out and finding some more hidden gems!

I took a slow walk around to browse and see what brands and offers were there that I liked the look of, so that I didn’t just rush and buy the first brand I saw – I’m a terrible impulse buyer! Once I knew what was there I could at least make an informed decision, and feel much less guilty about buying everything! Here’s some of my purchases:

Brush wise I decided I was going with either Blank Canvas Cosmetics or Crownbrush!

  • Blank Canvas Cosmetics – as a makeup artist you can tell by immediately touching a brush if it’s going to do the job you need them to do, and these felt exactly as they should, the stand was presented well, nice and simple with a good choice of well displayed brushes, it was busy enough but I was able to comfortably browse through them, I was offered help without a pushy sell attitude, they were good quality brushes and very affordable, I just knew I had to buy them!
  • Crownbrush – I gave the stand a try but it was CHAOS, I could barely get at it because there were so many girls there, but not only that but there were an insane amount of brushes, most unbranded, and about 10 types of the same brush that all felt different, nothing felt quality there at all, it just felt messy. I’d prefer a brand to be able to stand behind 1 top quality brush than sell 10 brushes at different prices, appearances and quality. I asked for help at the stand and I was pretty much refused – it’s as if they didn’t know anything about the brushes! Maybe they were just there to process the sale. I hate rooting around & I hate battling with people for a place in the stand and even when you did you could only access a couple of brushes and then would have to step back and push your way to another section of the stand. I just had to leave the stand, which was unfortunate!

Here’s the different brushes I picked up which I’ve talked about in a seperate post here

I did pick up the Crownbrush Concealer Palette on my way out because I had heard about it before from other bloggers and I really didn’t want to leave without picking up a product from another brand and nothing else jumped out at me that had a reputation such as this did! I’ve talked a little more about it in another post here

I was delighted to see the Cocoa Brown Tan stand because I wasn’t expecting it to be there – I stocked up on almost every product given they had a great offer! I’ve talked more about it here! The girls at the stand were gorgeous and very much represented the brand as I expected, so friendly and helpful and had a lovely cocoa brown glow!

I also picked up some OPI Nail Varnish and my all time favourite lash glue DUO in the Dark colour! I never ever ever ever ever use the glue that comes with false lashes. Ever.

I’m happy with my purchases – my bank account not so much, but i definitely got some bargains and invested in some great brands which is one of the reasons why I wanted to attend! One thing that was a bit disappointing about the Beauty Show was that it didn’t feel like it was full of industry professionals, it felt like it was very much open to the general public – even though it wasn’t meant to be, and with that was a lot of young giddy girls. This was probably the reason the Crownbrush stand was so packed!

Here’s a list of what products were on offer!
